“Silent” is a commercial label for an acoustic canopy, not a promise of inaudibility. Site layout multiplies or cancels that rating: hard walls reflect sound, soft landscaping absorbs it, and discharging radiator air toward a neighbour’s bedroom is a common self-inflicted complaint.

Choose silent canopies when the set sits near housing, guest rooms, consulting rooms, classrooms or office façades, or when municipal by-laws cap night-time noise. Mining camps and pure plant rooms can often accept open-frame machines inside a dedicated power house. For mixed campuses, a silent set outdoors is usually cheaper than building a full acoustic room around an open set.

Canopy design affects service access. Lockable doors, removable panels, internal lights and enough clearance to pull filters without crane time keep maintenance honest. Weather sealing, powder-coated steel and proper earth bonding protect the alternator and controller through Highveld thunderstorms and coastal salt air. Confirm the stated dB distance on the datasheet — figures at 1 m are not comparable to 7 m ratings.
