AGP Generators refurbishes and trades in tired diesel generator sets across South Africa, offering a condition assessment, a defined overhaul scope, and a clear split between what is replaced and what is reconditioned. Refurbished units carry a warranty so the buyer is not taking a naked risk, and trade-in valuation gives owners a credit path when replacement beats repair. The decision between refurbishment and replacement is modelled on runtime, parts availability and residual duty, not a sales preference.

How we work
1
Condition assessment
We inspect the set, run a no-load and where possible a load test, and report on engine compression, alternator insulation, controller state and canopy condition.
2
Overhaul scope
A written scope sets out what will be replaced new, what will be reconditioned, and what is sound to leave, with the reasoning behind each decision.
3
Strip and rebuild
The engine and alternator are stripped, worn components are replaced or reconditioned, and the set is reassembled with new consumables and fluids.
4
Test and warranty
The refurbished set is load tested and issued with a warranty, so the buyer takes a documented unit rather than a naked risk.
5
Trade-in or return
Where the owner is upgrading, the assessed set is valued as a trade-in credit against a new or refurbished replacement, or returned to service.
When refurbishment beats replacement
Refurbishment usually wins where the engine block and alternator are sound, parts are available, and the set still suits the duty. A tired 250 kVA industrial frame with a rebuildable engine is often a better spend than a new set, especially where the canopy and switchgear are reusable.
Replacement wins where parts are obsolete, the duty has outgrown the set, or the repair cost approaches the price of a new unit with a full warranty. We model both on runtime, parts availability and residual duty so the decision is financial.
What is replaced versus reconditioned
Consumables and wear parts — filters, belts, hoses, injectors, piston rings and bearings — are replaced new. Major components such as the cylinder head or alternator windings are reconditioned where testing supports it, and replaced where it does not. The split is documented in the scope so nothing is quietly reused.
What it costs
Pricing for refurbishment & trade-in depends on the factors below. We quote in writing so the full cost is visible before any work starts.
Set kVA and engine platform
Extent of wear and parts replaced
Parts availability for the engine brand
Canopy and switchgear condition
Load test and reporting
Warranty term selected

Yes. We assess and refurbish any diesel generator set where parts are available, regardless of the original supplier, and document the work against the engine nameplate.
